Those who have watched 'Hobbit - Battle of Five Armies' will get it. For those who haven't.. this is a spoiler, don't read the story below. :P :)
Fili and Kili are Thorin's sister's sons and will be the next in line to the throne after Thorin. Fili is groomed to be a great warrior and a king someday. Kili, who is a younger brother to Fili, is too a good warrior. Both very well groomed by Thorin, who is already a legend in people by the name Thorin Oakenshield and is father figure to them.
Fili and Kili are suposed to die according to the Tolkiens book. But isnt their death shown too obvious in the movie?
On other instances, in the previous parts of the movie The Hobbit 1 n 2, both the hot dwarfs, are shown fighting orcs which are double their size, dirty goblins, furious wargs and giant trolls literally.
How come Azog just drags the same brave dwarf Fili to the edge and Fili doesnt even struggle or kick or etc when Azog holds him by his collar and kills him. My reaction (along with most others) "just like that?"
Good part is at least Kili fights till the last breath. But he too doesnt move or struggle much when Bolg kills him. Kili just stares at his out-of-the-book crush Tauriel while Bolg cuts his chest open!? Couldn't really digest.
THORIN dies real good . Amitabh Bachchan style. And like Big B movies this movie too does well on box office when the angry young man dies. ;)
Also i felt Thorins death was like Leonidas' death in 300. Werein Leonidas drops his sheild so that he can take aim to shot Xerxes. Here, Thorins blade(sword) is blocking Azogs blade from piercing him. Yet, Thorin releases his own blade, giving a way to Azogs blade to go through him.. so that Thorin can take a shot at killing Azog. For Thorin couldnt lose a chance like this. Thus, he lets Azog pin him first and immediately he screws Azog real bad with his elvish blade. Both cut each others chest open. Azog dies.
Thorin looks upon the battle field, fight seems to be won with a little assistance from Eagles.. and doesnt die. He walks a few steps with heavy wounds and after having a little before-the-death chat with Bilbo (like Hindi movies) and then ..dies.
While Bilbo weeps like a child sitting next to the Thorin ..is a very emotional part.
BOTTOM LINE : Thorin, Fili and Kili had to die in the Last part even if they were people's favourite. Out of which Thorin's fight and later death sequence looks incredible. Kili's partially logical(story logic) to die that way. And Fili's death looks completely fake n unexplainable.
Any how, they die. And Hobbit lovers must have cried a lot in theatres like kids when the brave trio... only heirs to the Erebor died, becoming a Legend.
For they travelled that long, fought that hard and won the mountain to be ruled by someone else...
